I wouldnt recommend a rod of less than 1.75lb test curve for barbel in any conditions, certainly not in the testing conditions were talking about here so put the feeder rods down but if you have a carp or pike rod anywhere up to around 3lb test curve itll do the job and will be more suited to the floods than normal conditions where stiffer rods may lead to hook pulls
The downside is that trashing items usually just makes them go to waste thats where the upgrades come in
